Straight answers on how Autorelx is built, where its data reaches, and — just as importantly — where it doesn’t.

Q1How is this different from Consumer Reports or RepairPal?

Those are largely survey-based (owners self-report) and centred on the US/UK market. Autorelx is evidence-based — built from millions of real MOT inspection records, regulated FCA claims disclosures and manufacturer recall data — and it is APAC-focused, covering the SEA-market and JDM-import models those tools don’t. It also prices a specific vehicle (make/model/year/fuel/mileage), not a model-line average.

Q2Why isn't a specific car covered yet?

Coverage runs in tiers. mot_direct means we have real inspection data for that exact model; platform_proxy borrows a documented mechanical twin; and insufficient_data means no direct data, no clean proxy, and often a car too new to have a 3-year MOT record yet. Rather than fabricate a score, we show the gap honestly (with a note on where sibling-market data exists). See the glossary and methodology.

Q3What do “component proxy”, “cross-market signal”, “chemistry modelled” and “default relativity hold” mean?

They are the labels for how a number was derived when direct data doesn’t reach. A cross-market signal is engine/transmission risk from US NHTSA complaints/recalls (MOT never inspects those internals). Chemistry modelled is an EV battery curve from its LFP/NMC/NCA chemistry class, not a per-model fleet study. Default relativity hold projects a model past its own newest data toward 2026. Each is tagged distinctly and carries a wider confidence band — see the glossary for plain-language definitions.

Q4How current is the data, and does it reach 2026?

The MOT inspection data covers test dates through 2024. UK law requires a car’s first MOT at 3 years old, so a car registered after ~2021 structurally can’t have a real record yet. Years beyond that are shown as projected (marked “· projected”) toward 2026, never presented as observed. The repair-cost trend chart projects a few years further, dashed.

Q5Are the repair-cost numbers real claims data?

No — severity (repair cost) is a documented research estimate from local workshop pricing, flagged “estimated” everywhere it appears. The failure shape (from MOT) and level (from FCA disclosures) are far better evidenced. Partners contributing real claims or workshop data get calibrated outputs exclusive to them.

Q6Is this actuarial advice?

No. Autorelx is a reliability-intelligence product for evaluation and pricing support. It is not actuarial advice, and it is pilot-stage — treat the outputs as evidence to inform your own judgment, not a substitute for it.
